I am about to re-power my 1992 OUTRAGE 22. I would like to get some recommendations. I am going to buy a Suzuki, but can't decide on either the 175DF or 200DF. The 175 is 100-lbs lighter than the 200, but I don't know if that will make up for the performance of the 200. [Seeks] [performance data] with engines in this power range. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

What are you running now? Being the boat is designed for twins I doubt the weight will be noticed. Personally though I would go 225 or 250hp if not going with the 175. If you look back in the marketplace I posted a used 2006 175 for like $6k in FL.

I re-powered about a year ago with a small block E-TEC 200-HP. Lightly loaded, I get 43-MPH on the top end at 5,500-RPM. The boat likes to run at 4,000-RPM and 25-MPH. In an average day, I get about 3-MPG with this set up. This is generally 25 to 40 miles running offshore from fishing spot to fishing spot, trolling around a bit, and then running back in. I was concerned about weight on the transom since this model tends to flood the rear deck due to low transom and poorly designed splash well. If I faced the same choice today, I would spend the extra $1,000 for a 225.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Would a jack plate make a difference with the Suzuki 175?

Suzukis love to be mounted high. No need for a Jackplate(although I would run one) but I would mount it all the way up or one hole from all the way.
