Has anybody ever come across a Error code called low voltage? The engine is a 2007 225 Opti and uses the Smart Craft Metering system. The batteries in the back are brand new the house batteries are on there last year but are reading fine. The Quicksilver portable meter indicates its out by .1 something of a volt. It wont shut the engine off nor does it sound the alarm but it is consistent every start.

Optimax engines require marine STARTING batteries capable of 1000 MARINE CRANKING AMPS minimum. Measure the voltage AT THE BATTERY before cranking and then DURING cranking. If it drops below 10 volts during cranking, you have a problem. Could be your batteries, or high resistance between the battery and the engine due to such things as loose or corroded terminals. Check ALL connections on both the positive and negative cables between the battery and the engine. Your battery selector switch could also be the culprit. For more testing.....do a Google search for how to do a "voltage drop test".

Thanks for this interesting that you mentioned the battery switch never thought about that being a problem but could be. I had a technician come out today to look at my power trim problem and asked him to run a diagnostic on the the Low Voltage sensor error. I was wrong it now shows 1.25 of 5 volts coming from one of the 5 volt power supplies. There are three of them in the new optis two of which are running perfectly and one that is not even close. The reason why the engine will not go into safe mode is because the 5 volt that handles the main engine power is working correctly. Still not a good thing to be running the engine regardless because at some point another part will take the hit for this. I will try to test the charge from the battery and its switch as you mentioned as it seems logical. |
