Verado died yesterday. So begins my vacation. Two days of fishing, maybe three gone. Took [the Mercury VERADO motor] to the shop. Everything is under warranty--but still--the motor only has 25 hours on it! On the bright side, things could have been worse. [Apparently alluding to this failure as caused by the well-know problems with the Fuel Supply Module or FSM of the VERADO, which has a history of being affected by ethanol blended gasoline fuels, notes that this problem] sounds like it is a common problem. I pulled information from the Verado site.

[Deleted long cut and paste apparently from VeradoClub.Com resources which described how ethanol contributed to problems with a fuel level float in the Verado Fuel Supply Module, and how the float could become stuck in various positions, causing various malfunctions with the fuel supply.]

Thanks for the detailed and very clear description. I'm sure this will help somebody.

I've put on my LHG Omniscience Modular Helmet (Limited Availability, Special Edition) and determined that this is not true.

It cannot be true.

Why would you lie about a great American product?

I've determined that you have ulterior motives and logged on today to simply bash Mercury.

You are bad.

The end.

What just happened?

I think I'll channel JimH next.

Blame Archer Daniels Midland Corporation and the Ethanol lobby.

:)

Let us know if your dealer is mean to you. That will get LHG here for real in a hurry.

I have every confidence that they'll fix this with no problems and you won't have to worry about it again until your ethanol content is upped to 15% by volume in the fall.

Thanks, EPA!

Thank you for at least quoting me correctly but at 25 hours I would hardly think it's a float. Let us know what it is.

In as much as we have no information provided about the date of manufacture of the VERADO motor, we cannot really know if this particular VERADO was manufactured with the improved Fuel Supply Module or not. Mercury has been quite helpful with replacement and service to owners whose VERADO engines have fallen victim to ethanol fuel and its effect on the components in the original Fuel Supply Module. If you have a FSM that has been damaged from Ethanol, you should get a remedy from the dealer.

On my 2007 175 HP Verado the original Float switch in the FSM failed at 40 hours, meaning that the engine would only run at idle. this allowed me to get "home." This was replaced in 2 days by my dealer, which was in 2008.

In 2010 my boat was at the dealer for repair of an onboard 12 V electrical problem (not related to the motor) and the dealer elected to install a more recent (than2008) upgrade kit for the fuel supply module and associated hoses. they stock these kits. that's how common these problems are.

Mercury is doing a good job of addressing these ethanol related fuel issues in my opinion. So, Whaler007 I hope you have the same good service.

JimL
