A hydraulic line coming out of the stern going into my Telflex steering cylinder is leaking. It looks like the top of the line wore off from rubbing against another line. The previous owner had two lines on top of each other. I have since gotten the two lines away from each other. Is there any way to stop the line from leaking without replacing the entire line. Thanks.

If the abrasion that caused the leak was due to the hose rubbing against another hose of the same type, the other hose should also be abraded and ready to begin leaking.

Cut the hose at the leak, cutting away the portion that is damaged. Insert a coupling and connect the two side of the hose back together. Pressure test. Bleed the system. Or, buy new hoses for both.

Teleflex says leaking or damaged hydraulic lines can't be fixed, and must be replaced.

Hydraulic hoses operate under extremely high pressure. Special presses are needed to properly install the fittings. A repair should only be attempted by a pro with the correct equipment and experience. Most hyraulic shops can probably make you a new hose for nearly the same price as repairing yours.

There is no reason to attempt to "repair" a SeaStar Hydraulic steering hose, just replace it.

Actually replace both hoses while you are at it. That way both hoses are the same age and you only have to bleed the system the one time.
