[On a 1989 Mercury 60-HP outboard the oil mixing pump] has gone crazy. I'm not sure what the problem is. [The oil mixing pump] is now mixing oil and gas [at a ratio of] 1:10 by my mechanic's estimate, [which results in an engine exhaust with] smoke and a mess around the engine. [The] motor compression checks out; [the carburetors have been] cleaned and adjusted. This [unclear] is six-years-old, [and it] ran fine last year. The seasonal service [was performed] last year. [The motor] ran okay first time out; now this. Unit peeps as normal at start up. No other peeping during operation. Engine smokes and refuses to rev up. My mechanic is not familiar with [the Mercury oil mixing system]. [Give me a] possible solution. I would certainly appreciate it! |

Disconnect, pre-mix 50:1, enjoy. |

After you read this article http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/mercuryOilInjection.html you probably will know more than your mechanic. |

Read and perform the procedure under the sub-heading Adjusting Oil Injection Pump in the article I have linked above. |

I wouldn't disconnect the oil pump. There is a problem that needs to be fixed. Your engine doesn't always use a 50:1 mixture. At certain speeds it could be at 80:1. Check it out and get it fixed. |
