I recently aquired an OEM stern seat for my Ribside that had never been mounted and was stored for the last 39 years at a dealership. I have no hardware and need the stantion height. Is there any additional hardware necessary ?
I am aware that the Ribside has its wood located differently than the other Banana hulls and have the drawings to aid in the deck fittings.

Here it is sitting atop 2 jerry cans.

Jim - Are you sure that's a ribside original seat? The reason I ask is that I remember seeing some photos sent to me by Frank Kehr, who did an article on restoring his own ribside 21 several years ago. His boat came with a factory stern seat that was made up of 2 or three sections, if I remember correctly, and it was a fairly complicated affair, with lift-out pieces so you could access batteries or fuel tanks behind. And I think he had Bob Mills re-make the stern seat to original specifications. I know it was not a one piece item like the later ones were.

You might consider giving Bob a call, and see what he remembers. Or if you know Frank Kehr, a Marine Surveyor out on Long island, try to contact him.

As for height, I would assume the height being used by any of the second generation Whaler stern seats, would work. The two support brackets a one piece 7/8" SS "U". I have no clue whether back support is needed on the ribside, but on the later Outrage/Revenges, there was either a rail support, or they were screwed into the seat back through the full transom component.

Larry no clue as to the exact year but It fits snugly to the gunnels. All I have back there is Opti oil in the corner and can access that from the green water door as well as the drain plug. The old one around here has a lift out section in the middle but the boat isn't fitted with saddle tanks. My batteries are in the console.

The seat you show looks identical in shape/size to the oem one in my 1989 22' Outrage.
Although I removed it, due to condition.
It sat on 3/4 tubing & was attached to a stainless rail that ran behind the seat & attached to the gunnels on each side. As for height I believe it was 20 inches or so high.
Check out some of the Classic Outrage cuddy photo's here.
The 22'Outrage Cuddy came with that seat.
Hope this helps.

I have a seat that looks very similar on my 1992 REVENGE 22. Next time I have the boat here I will measure the distance from the deck to the bottom of the seat base. I think the dimension is about 10-inches. I have a tote that is 8.75-inches tall and it fits easily under the seat.

I have often though that a interesting rear seat could be made with two compartments in the base and hinged tops with cushions. This would create two nice storage compartments that were out of the weather.

If the question is about what seat height the original was set at, you can see from original photographs that the top surface of the seat cushion was set about half way up the inside face of the gunwales. In other words, about two inches below the top surface of the gunwales.

This is quite a bit higher than the seat is sitting on those jerry cans.

Just went to a local marina and shot this picture, I know the owner and will gather the info when he pulls it out.
Yes Larry the seat had a removable middle section and 2 x 4 supports, I like mine better.
Interesting to note this picture is of an original never modified Ribside, console never touched or oiled, held up well I think. The owner bougt it new and rarely uses it as he has become quite disabled.

It is interesting to see that the Ribsides still have their places.
I wish that we could see a few of those around the Island here.

Not sure whether this will be of any help but on my Outrage 18, the distance between the deck and the top of the stern seat cushion is about 15 to 16 inches.

We have a soft-side case we store under the seat. The case is just a bit over 10-inches tall and it is an interference fit under the seat.
