Hi Gentlemen,

My EMM is firing poorly on all 4 cylinders of my 2002 115HP Ficht engine. So engine don't even start. (IT was running smooth until it just stop firing.

I took it to the dealer, and they said it is the EMM. Does anyone knows how to repair it? I live in Brazil, and sending the unit to DFI gets just too expensive. (around 250USD just for shipping). I have changed a few power transistors, but the problem persists. (I also ran the diagnostic sw, and all tests are fine.)

I was able to find a PN.586518 as a replacement for my PN.586726, does anyone know if they are interchangeable?

I found out that PN. 586724 is a direct replacement for both units (PN.586518 and 586726), does this make them interchangeable?

Thanks!
Raphael

Raphael,

That is an astounding cost of shipping such a small part to DFI and return. Surely a more economical shipping source can be found. If you are certain the EMM is defective it may be less costly to order a new one from BRP/Evinrude and pay shipping one way only.

Have you spoken with DFI Technologies? They have a reputation for excellent customer service. Perhaps they can offer a less costly shipping option or even be able to sell you a reconditioned EMM without credit for your old one.

Inglrez,

Contact Paragon Tec in Angra dos Reis and talk to Ricardo or Jorge. Those two brothers are considered the best technicians in South America for Evinrude products. They will give you the honest information and pricing to fix your motor.

Thank you Gents,

I've asked for a new unit quotation to a local dealer in SP, and the price is a "symbolic" USD4.000,00. Yes, "just" 4 thousand dollars.

I've also contacted DFI, but they need my unit for a proper configuration of the new one. (injector numbers, etc)

Surely, DFI is the way to go, but if someone has some tips on the transistors inside the module, I'll really appreciate. I have good knowledge on boards and circuits repairing, but without the board schematics, it gets quite hard.

Thanks!

Raphael,

I hope you are able to get the schematic but suggest it will be very difficult as it is proprietary information belonging to BRP. Even assuming you are able to repair an EMM I imagine it will then require programming. Again, obtaining the software and settings for your engine may be quite difficult.

At this point I suggest you follow the advice from "Seahorse" as he is a very respected expert on Evinrude/BRP engines. If you contact Jorge at Paragon he should be able to provide information on the availability of the BRP information you're seeking. If it is unavailable he may be able to offer an acceptable alternative.

Good luck and let us know your outcome, please.

Just to let you know, I've tried to track down the emm, and came up with some "potencial" damaged areas.
I'll change some transistors that I've managed to find in Brazil, while the others will take a little while to arrive. (aprox. 3weeks!).

I'll let you know the outcome asap.

Bests,
Raphael

I used to work for an online fishing retailer. My boss refused to ship to Brazil but ships just about anywhere else in the world. He could not guarantee products would arrive to the buyer. Apparently they would "disappear" in customs.

That is sometimes the truth... Although customs are way better now, taxes are still a huge inconvinient. For boating materials, taxes are over 100% over the item+shipping costs, for items above 40usd... That's why an emm costs US 3500 around here. Sometimes is cheaper tobtakeba plane and fecht the item in the US! Unbelivable...

Next week I'll test the "first level" repair on my emm. I'll change the power transistors that are responsible for high voltage/current switching that drives the coil. They are military grade IGBT. Quite strong components.

Bests, Raphael
