I took my trailer in for repairs and the repairman suggested that the boat should ride on the bunks and not the rollers. I explained that the boat was designed to ride on the keel. That being said, the rollers do need to be replaced but the ones that are on there now are big diameter rollers over a one inch piece of what looks like galvanized pipe. I've looked all over and can't find replacement rollers for them. All I've seen are the ones that fit what appears to be the new standard of 1/2 inch diameter rollers on 1/2 inch solid pins. My questions are 1) does anyone know where I can find these larger diameter rollers? OR
2) will the 1/2 inch roller pins support the weight of my boat?? there are 6 rollers....
Any input greatly appreciated!

Are you sure they're 1 inch or are they the 5/8 inch? Tie Down Engineering sells both size (diameter) roller pins, and STOLTZ sells rollers with 5/8" holes. cf: http://www.stoltzind.com/keelroller.html

They are definately one inch pipes. I've never seen one like it before either. The 5/8 shafts are tiny compared to what's on there now. It really looks like 1 inch galvanized pipe.

That sounds like a Shoreline Trailer to me, made in Texas and now out of business. I bought a Whaler which came with one of those, and which I later sold. It had the big diameter shafts and rollers to fit them.

As far as I know, neither the shafts or rollers are available now. I had to scrap the whole system, including the brackets that held them, and buy new brackets, shafts and rollers using the modern 5/8" style.

Well, that answers my question about the old rollers. Are the 5/8 shafts strong enough to hold the weight?

This trailer with the Stoltz 12" rollers and 5/8" SS shafts handles my 25 Outrage launching and retrieving needs like a dream. The Stoltz rollers have a metal sleeve in them preventing deflection, which is why they MUST be used with SS shafts. The black rubber rollers do not, and will sag under weight.

Here is my preferred method of installing the rollers on the trailer cross members, using two SS bolts though the neutral axis of the cross beam, and two across the top. Since the top bolts are at the top of the roller bracket slot, they can't slide down.

Stoltz rollers are now orange colored and more UV stable, to distinguish them from the cheap knock-offs that stole their original yellow color (which always turned brown).
