Would appreciate any information where I can obtain a teak bow pulpit for my '89 Outrage 18 to hold a Fortress Anchor.
Would like to stow the anchor on a pulpit for quick deployment and to free up space in bow storage. Thanks.

Are you interested in purchasing one, or building one?

There are drawings available for making your own, and there are skilled craftsmen like Mike Stennett at Nautical Lumber who could fabricate one for you at a reasonable price.

I've never seen one on the "used" market that was removed from a hull.

Would like to purchase complete with hardware and instructions! :)

I don't think one was made as an option for an 18'?

Boston Whaler first offered the factory bow pulpit with pulpit rail extension in 1985, I believe. I ordered a 1986 Outrage 18 with this option, factory installed only, at an additional cost of $500. at the time.

It was a complicated installation, and could not be done by dealers. No kit existed. Besides through bolting under the gunwale lip, large bolts were drilled and tapped into an aluminum plate imbedded in the hull. In addition, the Marinium bow cleat also held it in place, providing uplift resistance, also being drilled and tapped into the same aluminum plate, and then the pulpit extension bow rail assembly provided further support and uplifting resistance to the assembly. Marine plywood padding/shimming was also used.

Unless you can make an exact copy of the entire factory option, including the bow rail extension, I would not mess with one.

There may be brand generic aftermarket bow pulpit kits, but I doubt if one would make a proper installation on the Whaler's bow.

One thing is for sure, it is one of the nicest factory options that was avaiable on the '85-'93 Outrages, 18'-25'.
Unfortunately, because of the extra cost added, to already very expensive boats, not many dealers ordered these for their inventory, and very few boats actually have these.
I had to order my boat specially, and waited 3 months for it to be built to my specs and desired options.

Dear LHG , My brother is in the middle of installing a factory bow pulpit on his mint condition 1987 outrage 20 ft located in Sicily . I will be ordering the rail extension from Fred @ CMI , my brother is having the pulpit fabricated locally off the drawings on WC.
My question is regarding the plate that is imbedded in the hull at bow , does this plate exist in all hulls or just hulls ordered from the factory with pulpit option ? ,and if the plate is not in the hulls without the pulpit from the factory ,what options do we have in order to retro fit the plate and still install the pulpit .
Would appreciate any info you have on this issue and or any other recommendations you or any other member may have .

Thank you all in advance.

Regards,
Sal P

Sal - Although I furnished those drawings to WhalerCentral, I wish I could be of more information, but I have never taken out the two bolts in bow pulpit of the Outrage 18, so cannot confirm that his model has the aluminum plate. But if it does, I would imagine all of the boats did, since it may have been the backing for the standard issue bow sampson post also.

On the Outrage 25, I can definitely determine the existance of the plate. Here, too, I have never removed the two large bolts, but I have removed the cleat. Even this is attached with four 3" long machine screws theaded into the plate embedded in the hull.

I have some close-up detail photos of the Outrage 18 pulpit going up on Photobucket shortly. Keep checking.

I believe the embedded aluminum plate exists on all Outrage-18s, specifically as the mounting point for the sampson post. Reference the links below with excerpts on size and shape:

What I assume to be the embedded aluminum plate is ghosting up through the fiberglass and gelcoat to reveal its apparent size: Trapezoidal and about 5-7 inches abeam and 5-6 inches fore and aft. Its shaped to fit the bow shape.

I can give you the width - 6 inches.
It is a "modified pentagon" shape that is essentially a 6"w by approximately 4"h rectangle with a squat, 1"h triangle on top of it toward the bow.

It is 1/4 inch thick. I'll get some photos. It is still stuck to the gelcoat/fiberglass that would have been on the "top" of the plate (the flat spot on your bow). I'm working on it a little at a time, because I want to preserve the integrity of the fiberglass/gelcoat that ripped off so I can use it as a template or reference when I form the replacement piece.
