John K	posted 05-15-2011 01:16 PM ET (US)      I have been noticing some small metal shavings falling out of my steering box on my Montauk the last two times I've used it. I replaced the steering cable once and the motor turns freely with some slop but no big deal. Do you think that wheel thingie that the steering cable rides on it losing it's teeth and is this just a part to buy or do you get a whole new assembly.
Fishmore	posted 05-15-2011 02:51 PM ET (US)             Personally, I have not noticed metal shavings coming out of my steering box. But if I did, I would not hesitate to replace it. losing steering at any speed could be a disaster.
contender	posted 05-15-2011 05:47 PM ET (US)             Fish is correct: your thingie should be replaced, but I would replace the hole thingie, you can fine them on ebay new and cheap...
