What is the typical fuel tank capacity of the early 1980's Outrage? Is [the fuel tank] made from stainless steel or polymer material? |

The answer will depend what Outrage you are talking about. There were several different Outrages made in the early 1980s. 18, 20, 21, 22 24, 25? You may be able to answer your own question be doing a little research here: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/specifications.html |

Expanding on the great link that Tom posted: Some of the early 1980's Outrage 22 boats came factory equipped with a plastic tank. Problems developed with that tank, if the boat was stored for the winter in an unheated shed. Water would seep between the foam and the tank, and settle in the cavity under the tank. No big problem if the boat was always used and stored in a warm climate. However, if the water froze, the bottom of the tank would bulge up, reducing the overall capacity. Factory replaced a number of tanks with aluminum ones. Regards--Don |

I do not recall ever reading of Boston Whaler using stainless steel for an internal fuel tank on any of their boats at any time in their history. Most of the internal fuel tanks on Boston Whaler boat made in the 1980's are made from aluminum. If not aluminum, then some sort of polyethylene plastic may have been used on certain models and at certain times. |
