I've been looking for a classic 18 Outrage and came across a 1991 vintage 19 Outrage. From what I've read and can see, it's practically the same boat as the classic 18 Outrage (early 1980 - 1990). The console is new in 1991. The front railing is welded but so was the railing on the 1990 18 Outrage.

What am I missing? Are there any other little differences between the 1991 and the classic 18 Outrages? Thanks. I hoping to rejoin the ranks of proud Whaler Owners in the near future. I've been boatless for too long :(

Read the REFERENCE article on this hull and follow all of the linked material included.

This reading will give you a good background on the differences between the classic Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 18 and its close cousin the OUTRAGE 19-II.

Only the trim, options, and accessories.

Although I love the teak laden classics, the Outrage 19 has one feature that I think is a real advantage: the console top tilts forward to allow easy access to electrical panels, wiring, etc. Anyone who has stuffed their head into a classic console to do some wiring will appreciate that convenience.

I also like the way they handle the anchor locker in the Outrage 19 II.

But I don't like how they handle the fuel tank access *you have to cut the floor out* for major repair/replacement. Overall, it's a nicer boat..wish it came with teak options. :)

I own a 1990 Outrage 18, though I did take a close look at an Outrage-II in my search.

The third fiberglass top liner that most distinguishes the two models is a significant revision. It adds weight as a given, but it does a couple other things as well.

Stern quarter seats narrow the transom opening and preclude primary power twins. The helm seat is raised on a platform, lessening the open feel of the smaller traditional Whaler skiff. The console is taller, creating potential garage door conflicts. All of those changes increase concealed storage capacity.

They are certainly comparable models, but the devil is in the details and your preferences and givens (like garage opening).

My outrage 19 was built in January 1990 and it has the "tall" console. BW started changing the interiors late '91 for the start of '92. I have seen two '91 19 outrages that looked exactly like mine. I do wish I had the tilting console though.

The console is the big one as mentioned it was a bit taller and had more of a slant which I think brings a nice refreshing look to the models overall lines. My father had one of the last models ever produced and had it was customized from our local Whaler dealer just because it was no longer offered in teak and he really wanted it included. What a boat that one was.

I'm not sure the 1991 was the same as the Outrage-II. I believe there was a transition when the console and other items were changed but not inner hull.
