A big thank you to all on the forum who helped guide me (and continue to help me) with ideas and wisdom about restoring/refurbing Whalers. I launched Flip Flop this weekend, it's the first time she's been in the water since I bought her in March. Water test went well, all gauges work, she planed up nice and quick with the 90 on the back. I have a couple of adjustments to make, gear selector is backwards, I had to pull back to shift into forward, and vice versa...(this is my first binnacle throttle, I changed over from a regular simple side-mount box). She wants to steer to the right, so I need to adjust the trim tab on the foot a bit. Speakers and radio still not installed, side rails still up in Myrtle Beach (need to go get those!). She porpoised a bit, and needed to be trimmed fully down to keep that from happening. Engine is mounted in hole #2, so I'll entertain advice re: moving it to #3 and the effect that would have on porpoising. Ran up to about 40 mph on the GPS (not even at wide open), not sure I'll ever be going that fast with 2 kids, a wife and 2 dogs on board, but nice to know she'll scoot when she needs to. Some clean up work to do, still hunting for a Katama helm seat pan, still need to mount and wire the front navigation light/chock. Overall, though, I'm very pleased. Thanks to all for the help!

You might want to explain to folks reading this what boat you have, model and year, as well as what motor it has on it. |

Sorry! Posted so many times on this one I figured EVERYBODY knew about it. Thanks, Tom! My first Whaler, Katama (16), built in 69 but somehow retitled as a 70. 1982 Evinrude 90 doing the pushing.... |

Go all the way up and try a 17" SST. or a 15" Stiletto. |

Move the motor all the way up to the fourth set of bolt holes and that will redcue the porpoising and make the steering lighter too. You'll also see more top speed and less bow rise on acceleration. |
