I bought a used Guardian 22 hull because they are suppose to be the ultimate "tank" work boats. I have been reading the posts [about GUARDIAN 22 hulls], however there is not too much information available on these boats. The deck layout on this GUARDIAN 22 is different from the Outrage: the storage areas are sealed or not even there. This GUARDIAN 22 has the aluminum cutty, which I made into a pilothouse.

Were GUARDIAN 22 hulls were made with a vinylester resin?

While sanding off the white paint on the outside of the hull, the underneath gel coat was red. Where there was supposed to be a red dot there was a white dot. Is this a possibility?

I had an Outrage 22--a great boat. I customized and made it even better.

I'll bet it was a fire department boat in its first life. The dots meaning "heavy duty hull laminate" were gel coated in, so if the hull were red gel coat, maybe they stuck in a white dot for that reason.

[Boston Whaler Commercial and Government Group] sometimes used black dots on the gray hulls. If they used a red dot on a red hull you would not see it. They built custom workboats in many colors. I have seen dark blue police boats, light blue registry boats, red fire department boats, dark green E-police boats, different shades of gray, and dark chocolate for Colombian Drug Enforcement which did a lot of running around at night. [Boston Whaler Commercial and Government Group] could mix whatever color you wanted to pay for.

I have never heard of the use of a particularly different resin in the laminating of a hull by Boston Whaler Commercial and Government Group as compared to the resin used to laminate a Boston Whaler boat. I suspect the same resin was used, but, as is widely known, the boats built by Boston Whaler Commercial and Government Group used a heavier laminate lay-up schedule

Thanks for the information on the many hull colors that have been used in laminating commercial or government boat hulls.

For more on identification of hulls with a heavier laminate, see the FAQ at

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/FAQ/#Q2

and under the subheading Work Boat Hulls.

If the manufacturer ID code portion of the hull identification number begins with WCG (for Whaler commercial and government group) then you can be certain the boat was built as a non-recreational product and most likely as the stronger hull.
