Where can the pull handles that go on top of the RPS backrest be purchased? I have a 1992 Montauk with teak RPS. The handles are approx 5.75-inches long and appear to be chrome plated and not stainless. |

Yes, the OE handles were the Perko Fig. # 1231. About $15 for the pair: http://www.warehouseboatparts.com/product/Manufacturers/3017336-M/ 1231DP0CHR |

I would have them re-chromed local to your area. There's no need to box them up and pay shipping unless you can't find someone local. Or you could call your local BW dealer and they can order the handles for you. |

Yes, you can re-chrome the old ones for $20 to $100, depending on the process and minimum charge, or buy a pair of stainless steel ones for $66, or simply buy a pair of OE handles for $15. Your choice. If you do buy a pair of handles that are not the Perko 1231 handles, be sure to carefully measure the hole spacing. There are a LOTS of handles on the marker that all look very similar but they do not all share the same hole spacing. Having screw holes that are a lot different from the OE handles is OK; you can just drill new holes but having screw holes that are just slightly different from the originals is a real pain. |

The Taco stainless are very nice , and the way to go. The Perko white metal ones will start to get pimples in a year or so of saltwater exposure. |

Defender Marine has them for about $55 a pair- worth the money if you are in saltwater, otherwise get the $15 ones- Don't waste your money on re-chroming, won't hold up on that metal. |

Unless you are restoring a Whaler to original, I would go with the stainless, I did on my Newport and my Revenge when building custom seating. They hold up great to salt, actually look better (my view),are smoother and more comfortable on the hands when gripping.......Jack |

Rechroming has its place but not with this application. Also in my opinion, sometimes restoring to original does not make sense when in pertains to Boston Whalers or any boat for that matter. Boston Whaler did a lot of things that can be improved on, and unless you can find a place (like a car show for boats) that will judge your restored Whaler and give you a trophy, what's the point. rich |
