I found a trailer that was used for a 15-foot Boston Whaler. Do you think a trailer set up for a 15-footer will work for a classic 16-foot? Thanks--jsb

Depends if it has 13-inch or 14-inch tires, then probably. If it has 12-inch no dice except for short runs. Trailers with 12-inch wheels are usually small and skimpy for a 13 to 15-foot boat. Putting 1,500-lbs on it is probably not smart.

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule on this. It all depends on the trailer.

Depends on the trailer. Look at the specs. Is it rated for 1600 pounds? If so it will most likely suit your needs.

Trailers are speced for gross weight, not net, so you'll need
the weight of the boat plus the weight of the trailer plus
safety factor. And doesn't a classic 16 weigh a bit more
than 1600 pounds with motor and fuel and gear?

And is it long enough to support the transom?
