My wife and I are tired of the swivel seats on our Outrage 18. We are looking at a reversible pilot seat with higher Z-legs or a leaning post. This [OUTRAGE 18] is used as a freshwater boat. I like to stand at higher speeds. We would appreciate your insight and anecdotes. Thanks. Dave

I hated the swivel seats in my 1988 Outrage 18. They were uncomfortable and hard to walk around. [I] replaced them with a Todd Deluxe Angler reversible seat back 70Q seat with four rodholders in the setback. I installed it so it is comfortable running the boat standing or sitting. So far, so good [after] two years. I thought about installing an original [reversible pilot seat], but I like the storage. [The] build quality [unclear, perhaps means the quality of the Todd Deluxe Angler reversible seat back 70Q seat with four rod holders in the seat back is] good, but not great. Overall [the author says that his present state is] happy.

I am still using the original pedestal base swivel seats on my Boston Whaler. They are probably the same ones used on the OUTRAGE 18. I find them to be comfortable and durable. I have looked at seat alternatives, but the cost of the better seats is rather high. Some really nice seats are almost $800. I don't find my current seats to be lacking enough to warrant spending $1,600 replacing them.

I do acknowledge that there are many very fine seats available now, but the manufacturers of those seats seem to be very proud of their work. I think even a replacement seat of the quality of the Boston Whaler original equipment seat is probably now in the $300 range.
