Ordered repair kit and now wondering if I can do this or take it to a shop? I was quoted a price of $300 for labor and parts.Little steep at the time so thought i'd save on parts cost and try it myself. Now I'm not sure if I should try doing the rebuild myself? How difficult is it or should I bite the bullet and spend the cash? Thanks in advance ,Bud.

OMC carbs are probably the simplest carbs to work on, you only need some simple tools, and an air compressor to help clean (get some carb cleaner as well) out some of the holes in the carb and parts. I like to use OMC triple guard grease on the gaskets and screws when putting them back together. Boats.net will have the parts if you need some and you can see an exploded view of your carb to help you put it back together. Take your time, and I like to lay out a clean white towel to work on (helps to see all the parts) keep your parts apart and you should not have any trouble...Good luck

Yep. It's one of the "dirty little secrets" of boating. And it's super easy. I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I hear of folks spending $10,000 or more on a new motor, to rid themselves of the "hassle" of carb rebuilds... which are avoidable also, by frequent running--even on the muffs. go for it, and use the care that rich/contender described. you'll be glad you did it. if there is nothing wrong with the rings and pistons, it'll run like new again.
