I spend most of my time on the water in my 170 Montauk. However, my lovely wife of 40 years enjoys a Wave Runner (a particular brand of personal water craft). Our grown kids, and their friends, also enjoy the Wave Runner. Anyhow, while doing the annual maintenance/inspection of this Wave Runner, I noticed a spot of missing gelcoat, approx. 0.25 inches by 2 inches. The underlying fiberglass appears undamaged. Apparently, someone "bumped" into something last summer - perhaps a bit harder than they meant to. I would like any recommendations as to the preferred method of repair. I looked at the West System, but am thus far unable to find it in quatities of less than a gallon. I would only need a tablespoon-full or so. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong places, or perhaps there is another preferred repair method.

Any advice will be appreciated.

West System epoxy is sold in small repairs kits for $20.

It sounds like you have a scratch in the gelcoat. I would recommend a gelcoat repair kit, such as http://evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=101 .
