Folks, my Furuno 1650 color gps is not reading the card ? The unit has been working well for a couple of years, but recently the card is not working. i noticed when I pull the card out its extremely hot. Is that normal ? The card US634XL, covering the Cheasapeake Bay dated feb 2004 acted up one other time but has been working for approx a year. Is it likely the card or the unit, and is this card avavilable today, or are there other card options. I did see someone selling a 1650, stating it uses mini charts or cmaps nt ?? Please advise asap. I need my map !!

Navionics has stopped making its "Classic" chart cards for the Furuno 1850 and 1650. You can still find some of them for sale at various boating supply stores, on e-bay, and on websites like www.thehulltruth.com. When I had my Furuno 1850, I remember that the chart cards felt warm when I removed them, but not hot. The various Furuno 1850 and 1650 models each came in two different versions. One version used the NC chart cards available from Navionics, and the other version used the C-Map NT chart cards. Your unit will be compatible with one or the other, not both. |
