Author Topic:   Alternative interiors for Sakonnet

My Sakonnet needs new everything. The center console finally bit the dust and I had already sold all of the other interior parts and the motor. So I have a bare 16 foot hull and am pondering ways to go. I like having open space so I am considering something like a 13 Sport. I'm even considering getting a 90 Etec tiller and just having a big skiff. Has anyone seen that done? What are some other ideas people have had for alternatives?

I am not interested in restoring it. I just want a functional setup that I can fish out of and my kids can ski with. The tiller might not be a good idea for a ski boat.

The boat has been in my garage for a few years and I am wondering what would be a good idea to attend to now that it is good and dry. I am thinking about refastening the rails and redoing the stern tube before it is exposed to wet again. Other ideas?

Thanks,

Jack in Minneapolis

Jack -

Personally, one of my favorite 17' Hulls is the 17' Super Sport. Back when they had blue interiors, I believe the model was called a Cohassett. Bench seating like a Sport. I'd make a center console with the bench seat. Add a chopped bow rail, and have Mills or a local canvas maker recreate the Cohassett spray shield/dodger that is in the 1968 catalog - looks like a nice setup.

That would be my ideal "up North" cottage boat for inland and lake fishing and water sports with kids and future grandkids...

Hi Jack,

Just so you know many of the parts of your boat are still on the water.
The Seat is in a 1969 16' 7" and most of the casting platform is in a 1966 16' 7".
So some of your original parts are still alive and kicking.

Hope all is well

John
