I recently developed an oil leak within my engine (99 Mercury Optimax 135), in the end it turned out that my oil pump was leaking, it funtions properly but leaks. Within this search I looked at all the oil distribution lines and noticed that a few sta-strap were missing. I installed some new ones and one particular connection was bad, it was before the check valve, I cut the line back and reattatched. My question is do I need to re-prime this oil pump. Only one line was removed before the check valve. I have a new pump on the way but would like to go boating this weekend. The leak is minor so I think I'll be fine. I do not want to self prime the pump as this will send the engine back into break in mode. I know once I install the new pump it will have to be re-primed. I plan on taking to the dealer and having them hook it up to the DDT. My question is does the old one have to be reprimed because I disconnedted one of the ditribution lines? Keep in mind nothing else was taken off? Thanks
