Hi everyone.

Conducted my annual montauk fishing vacation this year. Weather was great up until the last Saturday before we left on Sunday. Fishing was great, lots of filets in the freezer. (not to mention in my belly)

Long story short, couldn't help but still going out on Saturday to make a run to block island for striper. (southwest ledge was producing a few big bass on each drift with eels)

Weather was snotty. Notice that the kicker would not stay tilted up. Took a look and the swivel bracket had snapped. For those folks that don't know, the swivel bracket is the big cast aluminum thing your tilt mechanism attaches to.

Anybody ever bust one? And did they fix it themselves. Looks like a darn right bitch to do.

Thanks in advance.

Just an update.

I was looking at a 2400 dollar bill to fix it. My insurance covered the bill, so I just used the money to purchase a new T9.9 high thrust.

Most of the bill was labor. I am still a little suprised, and great up for good insurance with no deductible.

The swivel bracket casting seems like the component upon which the rest of the engine is assembled. If it breaks there is a lot of disassembly required to replace it, and that's probably the reason for the very high labor costs.

In the long run, insurance works out best for the insurance company. They analyze the risk and the costs, then over-charge you for bearing the risk. Once in a while insurance will work out in your favor.

Yes Jim, you are absolutely right on both accounts.

That bracket is dead center of everything!

As far as insurance, at 300 a year, for the last 6 years, I am ahead of the game. (No deductible after 5 years).

Be well and merry Xmas.

What type of insurance do you have that paid for this?

I have gieco. It is subcontracted to farmers I think (I will double check)

I had an agreed upon value of 20k. (I actually paid 386 per year)

I had the engines on the policy. I have a "vanishing" deductible that started at 500 bucks 6 years ago then went to 0$ last year.

I will post more info after I lol into the policy.

Thanks alot. I have Progressive and pay about the same but I don't think they would cover the bracket. That seems like it would be considered normal wear and tear.

Yeah. The guy that came to due the estimate quoted the fix at 750 dollars. I figured it was too low, but took the quote and check anyway. (I figured with 0 deductible and the fact they agreed to make good on it was there problem). My out board shop really had a back and forth with them to get them to understand. Took about a month, but given the fact that it was a trolling motor, I had no issue with the wait. (Although I did have to pass on two jobs since I did not have a kicker)

Just all worked out. Better to be lucky than good.

Just reread my posts. Sorry for such atrocious grammar/spelling Jim. I wrote this thing like a 6 year old.
