I'm finding it difficult to locate an Original Equipment Mercury fuel line primer bulb. Is there any on-line vendors for this part? Also, are there any good after market fuel line primer bulb? For example, is the Sierra Silverado 4000 fuel line primer kit any good?

The extremely knowledgeable and experienced former owner of my Mercury powered 17 Alert (special service Montauk), also a CWW member, installed an OMC/Evinrude/Johnson, OEM primer bulb, (not a knockoff)--if that is any help to you.Maybe he'll chime in as to why? Maybe the reason was no more than that it was all he had on hand when he was installing the tank under the console? -Peter |

I just purchased a factory Mercury bulb for my engine. I bought a not so cheap knockoff one and it didn't work very well at all. Apparently the Yamaha one will work but I found it to be way too expensive and didn't want to waste my money and time in case the mechanic was wrong. Mercury makes a few different models of these you just need to know your hose dimension thats all.Martyn |

I replaced my fuel line and bulb last year. I purchased the hose and bulb seperately since the hose from the tank to the engine goes under the floor in my 170 Montauk. I bought the bulb from a local marina's parts store. I researched bulbs and Mercury has a newer model out that is "Low Perm" and EPA approved plus safe for ethanol. I don't have any records of what the part number is but I think I paid about $9 or $10 just for the bulb. I saw one on EBay for $27 and that is a rip off. It fits both 5/16" and 3/8" and has two hose clamps included |

I second Contender, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE AFTERMARKET PRIMER BULBS.......they are JUNK. I have had very good results with the OEM YAMAHA bulbs. Get the right one for your size fuel line & forgetaboutit. I use them on three Whalers & one Action Craft.... ZERO problems or failures. IF you can mount the bulb where it is out of the sun, it will last longer. And that is the "SQUEEZE" on that! |
