Hi,

I recently inherited a 1994 Johnson Oceanrunner 200 HP. To date it has run well but recently I have had major problems finding any low-mid range while under power.

My idle is fine at around 700 rpm. Once i give the motor throttle is sputers and dies almost immedialty. Funny thing is that when I depress the throttle wide open from 700 rpm, I get right up to 5500 rpm once planing off? As soon as I back off the throttle it sputters and dies. So basically I cannot cruise anywhere between 800-5400 rpm??? Also, i cannot go in reverse unless i depress the throttle all the way in the reverse position?

So far I have done the following work;

Rebuilt all 6 carbs 3 times in 2 years! (some fouling of 2 low speed jets most recently but that's it). New gas tank and lines. New fuel/water seperator. New fuel filter. New plugs & wires. New air box. New lower unit (hit a rock with the old one running an ss laser prop). New water pump, seals and o-ring gaskets. New stator & flywheel. New power pack. Compression is also good in all cylinders (100-110)

It sounds like a fuel issue but I ran through everything. Could it be timing? Or shift cables/linkage not adjusted properly? Always use seafoam as well in fuel.

OMC motor is on a 21 foot 98 outrage.

Please help!!

tx

What are the compression numbers for each cylinder?

Has the motor been decarbonized and the recirculation system checked for flow?

What number carburetor repair kits did you use?

Who adjusted the linkage for synchronization ?

How did you clean out the idle pickup tubes?

what color are the bowl gaskets and the side cover gaskets?

Were the side covers tested for leakage?

What did you set the floats to?

What does each cylinderhead temperature read at idle?

What setting are the idle screws?

What is the idle timing?

What is the pickup timing?

Has anyone indexed the flywheel?

Is there any melted insulation on the timer base which may cause it to stick?

What diameter is the carb throttle roller?

If you cannot answer these questions, it is time for a trained tech to check things over for you.

All work done was completed by trained marine mechanics. I cannot answer all of these questions.

If anyone else has experience similar problems please let me know.

Thanks

Nick--You have me a bit confused. You said you performed the work, then later you said a mechanic did the work. Can you clarify who did the work? I think the suggested areas to check are a great list of things to investigate.
