My bow rail is very loose on my ss. There are what looks like allen set screws but I cant get any allen key to fit. Can I tighten these fittings?

thanks

The bow rail fittings on a 1985 Super Sport do not use Allen head set screws, they use Phillips head set screws, and yes, they can be tightened if they have not already stripped out, but even if you tighten them up they will become loose again shortly.

A better solution is to use a stainless steel pop rivet which both tightens the joint and becomes permanently tight.

Here is a good discussion of the technique:

I followed the technique that Tom W Clark sites on our 13 Super Sport.
What a difference! No more rattling and shaking, and screws coming loose and falling out.
Once I acquired the supplies: stainless pop-rivets, #11 drill bit, a borrowed pneumatic rivet gun (a must!), cordless drill with Phillips bit to remove old screws, the whole job was completed in less than 30 minutes.

I highly recommend the upgrade.
