I'm also in the process of replacing my mechanical steering with the Uflex Hydraulic Steering. I'd like to replace my shifter cables for both motors as well as they are kinked. How do you get that cover off of the QuickSilver Double Billet Controls to get to the srews? I've tried squeezing and lifting and gentle prying but it won't come off and I fear damaging it. There is a black 'button' on the back side but it won't push in. Boat is an 88 Revenge 20 WT. Thanks

QuickSilver Double Billet Controls? You mean Binnacle?

If so, the chrome plastic cover simply snaps on and of and ye, the black plastic button on (usually) the front is the retainer. Push it in with a blunt object with a tip diameter of about 1/8" while lifting that edge of the cover. It will come off.

I tried that and it won't budge. I guess i'll use a little more muscle and hope it don't break. Thanks Tom.

Well, try that again while simultaneously pinching the cover form both side near the end with the button. That can sometimes distort it enough to clear the button.

Every time I do this, it is difficult, but that's how it works.

If you break the cover, it is still available for about $30 or $40.

Yup broke the little knob off today trying again to remove the cover. Got it off though and now that I see how easy it will be to replace the controls I'll save it for a future upgrade. Thanks
