My Outrage over the years has become very difficult to steer except at moderate speeds. At slow speed and idle, its like wrestling a bear. It does not have hydraulic steering. Should I opt for just replacing the existing cables; they have never been replaced to my knowledge(I'm not original owner), or should I go for replacing the whole system with hydraulic steering? My motor is a 2011 Suzuki 140HP.

In my opinion, Teleflex SeaStar is the only way to go. Period. Countless threads on the subject. Go for it: You won't regret it. Good luck! |

I installed the SeaStar on my 18, and it is really fantastic. Kit is around $729 on Amazon. With a DF140, you could consider the BayStar, rated for a maximum of 150hp, which would be about 40% cheaper. $499 on Amazon. |

Why spend $800+ when you don't have to.Grease the steering rod. Better yet, pull the steering cable from the tilt tube and clean, reinstall with fresh grease. Add a steersman nut to the tilt tube if you don't have one. |

I think the old dual cable steering on the Outrage 18 is a complicated nightmare, including all the extra engine attachments. I hated mine and got rid of it after 4 years. If you don't want to go Sea Star/Baystar, consider simply a new 4.2 NFB single cable system for about $200. |

I replaced my 18ft Outrage dual cable system with a Teleflex NFB 4.2 helm and 16ft cable. This setup works perfect. |
