I noticed that the 17' Boston Whaler Outrage of the year 1995 that I'm currently working on does not have the Bronze transom anode. The owner has glassed the fuel tank in the past because of leaks caused by corrosion. Could this have been caused by the fact that the anode is not there?
Is it wise to install one?

The use of the bronze anode on the transom for the fuel system component bonding of classic Boston Whaler boats seems to have stopped, but I do not know the precise epoch when that occurred. My 1990 hull has a bronze anode. That your 1995 hull does not might be indicative of Boston Whaler stopping the practice, and, instead, relying on the battery negative as a common electrical reference for bonding fuel system components. Or, as you suggest, perhaps it was removed. Is there any sign of a repair to the transom where the retaining screw must have been removed and the hole filled in?

Perhaps other readers who have boats from this era, 1990 to 1995, can comment on the presence or lack of the bronze anode on the transom.

My 1991 Outrage 17 have the anode.

Could it be the opposite, i.e. the bronze anode was removed when the previous owner worked on the tank?
