I want to replace the existing seats on my Sport 13. They are shabby and the staples, t-bolts, etc are badly rusting.

The seats will be attached to the rear thwart plus one on a forward pedestal.

I am willing to pay a premium for seats with stainless steel staples and hardware. All my boat use is in salt or brackish water and the boat is often left uncovered in a saltwater slip.

Thank you.

If you happen to find seats with stainless hardware but rust prone staples you can get monel staples at Lowes or Home Depot that fit the standard staple gun and replace them.

After doing a little research I've found a fairly wide range of seats and pricing. Unfortunately the web sites don't give much in the way of specifications. At one end of the spectrum I've located Llebroc seats at $251 a piece. I've also found Wise, Springfield, Tempress and Milsco at lesser prices. Some seats are essentially molded plastic with or without cushions attached. Others, more expensive, are nicely upholstered.

I guess I'll have to call the different manufacturers to learn how the seats are constructed and if they use mild steel or moly or stainless staples and hardware.

Once I've found a seat that appeals I'll then have to find the attaching hardware. For the helmsman's seat I'd like to have a slider for some fore and aft adjustment. I'll want all the seats to be able to swivel and the forward pedestal seat will need to swivel as well as be removable to allow the boat cover to be installed.

Off topic, but I've ordered a Carver Sunbrella in 9.25 ounce weight cover. I'd hoped to have a cover locally fabricated but those boys are so busy that don't answer the phone or return voice mail messages, My cost including a support pole is about $366. I figure, based on a fishing buddies experience, a custom Sunbrella cover would have been about $700 with a one month wait.

I would like to have any added recommendations on my seat search.

One would think it's easy to find comfortable upholstered folding fishing seats suitable for saltwater use. I have not found this to be the case. Well, it was easy to find one brand but at what prices. I will buy three seats so prices over $200 per unit are not going to be on the list.

A decent alternative to my seat choices is a plastic clam shell seat with snap-in cushions such as the Boston Whaler OEM fishing seats. I've used the OEM seats many times and though they get the job done lack the comfort I'm seeking for long term use.

Back to the subject. My most disappointing contact was with Wise Seats, probably the largest of the seat manufacturers. I spoke to their customer service folks who assured me they only used non-rusting metals in their seats. I asked about staples specifically and the contact did not know, would check and get back to me. Several days later and no reply.

Tempress Seats, so far, looks to be my choice. They claim to use only stainless steel and aluminum in their seats, including staples.

The next challenge is the slider and rotater assemblies. Perhaps I can find these in aluminum by next year.
