I need a new engine for my 21 Conquest. I came across a 2012 200 hp E tec with 20 hrs on it. I can get the engine installed with ss prop new controls, gauges and rigging for 10k. The guy says engine was in the storm but was not submerged. it has a few scratches and the skeg is bent. When I saw the engine the top cowling and the bottom two cowlings were off. The guy could be lying about the storm damage. The engine comes with the remainder of the warranty which is 5ys. I will be saving a lot of money if I buy this vs new. What are your thoughts. Thanks Paul

I would not but a motor like that unless I personally knew and trusted the seller. If you are truly serious about, have your BRP dealership run the serial numbers to find out if the warranty is even still valid. |

Even if a manufacturer's warranty is still in effect, those warranties only provide a remedy for problems due to defects in the original manufacture. They do not provide coverage for problems resulting from damage in storms. |

Let us know what you eventually choose. I will re-power mine in the not too distant future. Have you considered the new Yamaha I-4 200HP? |

I have not considered the Yamaha. I would get another Optimax because of the controls, but would really like the Etec. I confirmed that the warranty is good for 5 more years. |

If you really prefer the E-tec, you should wait for their next promotion, which normally includes free rigging and get what you really prefer. Forum member Basshole did this with his Conquest 21. |

10k is a good price, but I would have to see it run before I paid him anything. "Not submerged" leaves a lot of room for other issues. |

Evinrude's E-TEC sales promotion has been extended to July 31. You get a 6 year warranty, a free stainless steel propeller of your choice, free gauges and rigging including controls are included. |

The marine press is full of warnings about used "Sandy" engines. I would stay away, especially at that ridiculous 10K price. If that is the small cube 200, even more reason to avoid it on a heavy boat like you have. Consider the more powerful large 3.0 liter 200 Optimax for about 11K. Just bolt it on and go. You'll get best in class fuel economy also. |

I would STAY AWAY from the used Sandy Special... Why is it priced so low?? IF it is still good, why is the owner selling it?? ... And I would Recommend a Yamaha or Evenrude over a Mercury. Having owned all three brands, with equal care & maintenance the Mercury's needed ALLOT more repair & had more down time. .. For a heavy boat, the larger the HP & cubes, the longer the engine will live & use less fuel. There is no substitution for more HP & Torque, on a heavy boat...... LUKE- Step away from the dark side...... |
