OK, its decision time and I want to get it right. My 20 Outrage has a nick or tear in every part of the red factory pinstriping. The cloth on the Mills Bimini is looking a bit worn and thin and its time for that as well to get replaced. I called up Sue at Twin Cities marine and she asked if I wanted black or red decals and pinstriping. Big decision. My heart was racing, I asked my wife, she rolled her eyes. I told Sue to hold the phone, I needed the advice from the continuouswave group. Gotta get this right. I have seen a few Whalers with the black pin striping with black canvas bimini and it has a sporty, stealthy, almost sinister look. So if you were replacing your pinstriping and canvas, which way would you go? Black or Traditional Whaler Red? Thanks in advance Sterling |

My'89 Outrage 22 has black striping just below the gunwale, and red Whaler logo decals. My T-top canvas is black. I think this looks sharp and traditional. I don't like Whaler logos in any color that's not red. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v408/andygere/ New%20Aluminum%20Trailer/IMG_1672_zps0e544fea.jpg |

Black Canvas with Black Stripes and a Black Logo looks sharp in my opinion. I had Black Stripes with a Black Logo on my 22 Outrage for a year. I then sold the boat and returned the logos to Red for the new owners. Black on Black has a more OEM Brunswick Commercial Products look to it than a standard OEM Whaler look. I like the look a lot. Do it and if you end up not liking it, you can easily go back....they are just stickers after all. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v427/jeff_rohlfing/Torch%20lake/ DSCN4766.jpg Our old Guardian with Black Logo |

I have traditional Jockey Red canvas and pin striping. However, I have to admit that this Sunbrella color is the most susceptible to sun fading. FL sun really did it in and I replaced my cockpit color last fall. If you are in a northern climate with a shorter season, this may not be a factor. if you live in the sunny South or Southern California black might be the better option. |

Been there done that, I have been a Whaler owner for the past 30 years with one used and 3 brand new Whalers under my belt. I bought the Montauk 190 Anniversary Edition in 2008 with Dark Blue striping. Last year my son power washed the boat (against my wishes) and blew the stripes right off. I decided to go back to red so I ordered all the red stripes and logos from Sue, ($73 bucks). I put the red on and the truth is that the blue lines look sharper and kind of does make the boat more "sinister" looking as mentioned above. Shall I say it looks more "Pro". Soooooo I went back to Sue and bought all dark blue striping once more (looks almost black)and shes back to normal. Should have never changed the color, and proves once again that my wife is almost always "right" Fred |

I think red looks best on classics and black looks better on more modern Whalers. My '77 Montauk has red canvas and a red logo and I like the way it looks. Blue canvas looks good too and I have seen many classics with blue canvas and red logos. My gut is always to go with what was there when it left the factory. |

Go Black on the Bimini & Decals!!! ... Go any other color on the engine brand.... For enjoyable boating, stay away from the "black engines", unless you like to support your local mechanic. |
