I read about 20 articles here and found steering cable length recommendations from 8-feet to 11-feet for a standard Sport 13 console installation. Anyone know the real, true, accurate length?

Well, that depends. How does the cable connect to the motor?

It's an 1987, so it has the 20-inch transom, and the motor has a standard tilt-tube attachment. I'm thinking [the cable length would] be 10-foot. If I decide to make the console wider than the small original, I'd add a foot.

Tom, while I'm at it, could you provide the distance from the transom to the back of the rear thwart seat, and possibly the distance from the transom to the front edge of the console? I can't seem to find that info anywhere.

A Sport 13 with a tilt tube-attached steering cable would need a 9-foot cable.

A Sport 13 GSL or a Super Sport, or Super Sport Limited, for that matter, use different cable lengths as will a motor that does not use the tilt tube mounting.

I don't have those other dimensions you need.

Tom, just to add to your extensive Whaler knowledge database, 1988 Super Sport takes an 11 ft cable with tilt tube attachment.

Tom, et alia: Thanks so much. I will try to link to photos as my rehab progresses.
