posted 09-23-2000 11:54 AM ET (US) Has anyone ever seen this combo? I know, its probably suicide, but - I have a perfectly good 140 sitting on my old outrage going to waste. I know max on the boat is supposed to be 100 but Seeing as how its raining today; I have plenty of time to sit here and come up with stupid ideas.
Will the transom handle it?

landlocked, the Montauk will handle the 140 just fine!.... same weight as the other 99.9 cubic inch OMC V4's... actually the 140 doesn't get into its torque band until fairly high rpm and by comparison the 90 gets max torque at low rpm so stress on transom will not be any more on brisk take-off! In fact the 90 V4 is probably faster from standing start to about 30mph and then the 140 should catch up.... In past years there were several Montauks running 140 OMC's and 150 straight six Mercs... there was even a 15 with a 150 Merc (owner is probably wrapped around a piling by now) and a 15 with a 115 Suzuki.. seems like everything has already been tried... Keep your eyes on the road!!! Happy Whalin'.. Clark... Spruce Creek Navy

Unless this is one of the mid-80's 'big Block' v-4s. they are bigger displacement, heavier, and much torquier than the 99ci v4.
