Have a 18 Outrage with a 150 Evinrude. Will be thinking of repowering in the future. My engine is a 1984 and runs great (so far).
Looking at anyhting from 115-140 OMC and Tohatsu.
Will a 115 surfice or do I need to go 135+.?

Mostly fishing and looking to cruise at 20 knots.

For your needs a 115hp should be fine.I would go with a Evinrude 115 and a Evinrude 8hp kicker/trolling engine.If you wanted speed I would put back a 150-Easy E

I've got an 18 Outrage with a 150 Johnson 1987 vintage. Like yours, mine runs great. I suspect it is because the engine is never working very hard to push the boat at reasonable speeds. However, if I were repowering, I would have considered a carburated 150 OMC 60 degree V6. That would be my choice for sheer simplicity. I've heard good things about that engine. However, with OMC's current financial condition, I would now probably think twice before buying another OMC for the moment -- could be hard to get replacement parts for a while if the need arises. Of course, engine choice depends on a lot of factors including where you are doing your boating.

Based on what I've seen in this area, I'd look real hard at a Yamaha 150. The dealers (two in our area) mount them then say goodbye, as they have had little service recalls.

I really enjoyed my 200 Yamaha this past summer (from a died in the wool Merc man)

Best - Don

See for an 18-Outrage with twin power.

The 70-HP Yamaha 2-stroke is a fairly lightweight engine. Check the total weight of other twin combinations.

And also see for riding LHG's rocket ship 18 powered by twin 115-HP Mercs.

Twins are double the expense, but raise your fun by the power of two!
