I'm trying to help a friend on a low budget. He has a 76 montauk with a very old v-4 90. Can anyone tell me the correct aluminum prop for this setup. Does any have a decent used one for sale.

No prop on the motor now? Condition? Not repairable? Looking for speed or power? Where does he use the boat? What is his budget?

Hi, Marty - I've had 2 Montauks - both had
90 HPs on them; one was an 87 Rude [I bought new]in 87, the other was a 91 Johnson [I bought new in 91]. Both had 13.25 x 17 size aluminum props on them - smoking good performance. I bought (for $65) a stainless 13 x 19 prop at a yard sale and put on for fun - very fast top end, about 51MPH if memory serves, but a dog out of the hole, would not pull me up on one ski. 13.24 x17 would pull me up, and was a rocket out of the hole; top end on the 17 was 47. Hope that helps. For a good used prop, try this forum, flea markets, etc - I'd guess a fair used price would be around fifty bucks...? Best, Maverick in SC

Thanks guys, his whaler is an ex-boat yard dog, and it's had a hard life. He hasn't had the prop off yet, and there are no markings on the outside. The motor runs great but that prop has spent a lot of time in mud and backing into pilings. He paid $2200 for it and the yard put a new water pump on before he got it.
Can you tell me if plans are available to build a new console or do we have to work from the old one?
