I have a 1982 Montauk with a freshly rebuilt 1994 Johnson 88 HP SPL (runs great). I want to prop it correctly for top-end speed as well as a good hole shot. I do have a doel-fin on the motor. What is the best all prop for my rig? What top-end speed can I hope to achieve?

Trident, a 17"pitch OMC "SST" (factory prop) will serve you best with the 88spl. At least that's my advice based on a 17 Newport with 90 OMC spl. and a Montauk with 88spl. Both of these boats has very stron hole shot and rev to 5500 rpm at WOT and approx 42mph!
Good luck, and it's always good to make test runs! If your engine is all the way down on transom you may want to consider raising it one or two holes for less draft and underwater resistance... Clark

I have a Montauk with a 1998 90 hp Merc.
I switched from an alum. 13 1/4 x 21 to a SS. Stiletto 13 1/4 x19.

I hit 44 mph trimmed up, 1 person in the boat.
The stiletto gives you tremendous bow lift.
Hole shot was greatly improved .My max RPM hit 5400.

Dick,

Did you figure out the vibration issue?

Thanks,
Barry
