have a 40 hp on 74 13' sport-------------- is their a device to help raise the engine.

Mark, I assume you mean "tilt the engine".. in which case you would benefit from an aftermarket trimand tilt unit.. can be obtained from CMC, Minkota...etc... around 500 bucks but you will experience really elevated performance.. the old 40 Merc 402 twin cyl was not a really powerful engine for 40 hp anyway.. it should "light up" once trimmed out a bit.... and if your boat is a 74 it has the 20" transom.... if you have a 15 inch transom it won't mount very well...Good luck... Mark,Boat U.S. has a device that clamps to the top of the outboard with a handle for leverage to tilt it up. It is rated for use with up to 40 hp. Cost is 42.50 You may want to check other marine catalogs as well, if this item interests you. Just another option.
