I have just purchased the 13' Sport with the 40hp 4 stroke motor. It runs great, but the
hole shot is slugish.

Top end speed with two adults and two kids
is 37-38mph.

What is available to improve the hole shot?

I was told to install a Dolfin on the motor.
I know nothing about these and I have a problem about drilling holes in my new motor.

I need help and input.

Thanks, Allen Wares

Allen! I have the 25 HP 4-Stroke and it is sluggish as well. I have been considering upgrading my engine to the 40 HP 4 Storke. My main concern has been the extra weight of the 40 HP 4-stroke. How did your boat handle this engine? Did the boat sit properly in the water with this engine? The dealer who sold me my boat said that the 4-Strokes are not as quick out of the hole as the 2-Strokes. The top end speed sounds great. Thanks for you feedback!

No problem with the weight. I was going full
out and pulled it back to nuetral immediately to see if I would take water on
over the transom. I was suprised not even a drop. I will try this again because I don't
believe it.

I had my buddy and two boys in the boat and it sit just fine.

Plenty of power to spare once on plane. With the trim you can have nothing but the prop in the water if so desired. It runs real
nice around 27mph with the load I had in it.

I just need to correct the hole shot.

See Surburban Boy's recent thread on the 15' Whaler rigging in this section. Sounds like the new Mercury Trophy Sport 4 blade prop might solve your problem. I'll bet that's why developed it.
