Does anyone have any long term experiece with Tohatsu Outboards? Especially in the 90 hp range.
How do they mach up to the competion?
Would someone be better off buying a 5 or 6 year old Merc, E or J? Rather than a brand new Tohatsu?
I would like your input.
Thanks

I race Tohatsu 50hp tiller motors on my Performance inflatable and they are great motors and they are priced right.

The only thing that I have heard really bad about the Tohatsu is trying to find a dealer close to you. In my experience, it is very hard to find dealers and service where I live, but easy with Mercury-J&E-Yamaha. Suzukis are hard to find too, at least 200-300 miles from me! Good luck-Jack Graner.

Tohatsu now requires everyone who purchases a remote engine without installation (as compared to a tiller motor) to sign a piece of paper stating that they will have the installed and rigged motor and boat combination inspected by (and stamped as so) a registered Tohatsu or Nissan outboard dealer. Without this signed sheet the two year warrenty is void. This will probably limit the recent swell in Tohatsu and Nissan internet sales. It is a shame realy. Events such as these always harm the consumer.

Where is Houma Marine, and do you have contact info? My boat is only about and hour and a half from the New York border in Conneaut,Ohio. I live in Pittsburgh,PA. 2 and one half hours from Conneaut. I could tow my boat to New York from Ohio. The 50h.p. remote model is the one I would be interested in, probably a few hundred dollars more than the tiller model? What are the Tohatsu controls like as I have never used them or ever seen them in general? How is you`re 50h.p. tiller running? Regards-Jack Graner.
