I recently was shopping around for a new outboard to replace my Evinrude 70 Hp (17' Montauk)
The genleman at Conventry Motors Marine in Pottstown, Pa said in the 18 years he has been selling Tohatsu he has never had one come back for warranty work.

Mark I'd be interested in what they get for a 70 Tohatsu with oil injection and PT. The closest equivalent Mercury 75 costs about $4300. Going the other way, a Merc 60 is about $3750.
I've noticed that many here seem to think the Tohatsu is a little known, but excellent brand.

I have a friend who is a dealer and swears by them, he switched from Johnson about 5 years ago.
I'm looking at their 5 hp 4 stroke for a kicker on my Montauk.
Take a look at www.tohatsu.com

The guy quoted me pricing installed $4495 for 70 Hp and $4995. for the 90Hp. Of course I did not haggle with the guy plus he very busy getting boats ready for the season.
The is a post in Classic Whaler: Performance section were speaks of a location that sells these things online very cheaply only catch is you have to get a certificate from a authorized Tohatsu dealer that it was installed properly in order for the owner to register it under warranty.
