How can you tell what material your outboard prop is made of ? Is it stamped onto the prop-hub somewhere. I have a Yamaha outboard, the prop has always had bottom paint on it, but I just don't know what material the prop is.

If it's heavy and solid feeling, it's stainless. An SS prop will weigh twice what an aluminium one does.

Larry is right. If you go to a dealer or prop shop and pick an aluminum prop and then pick up a stainless steel prop you will note the extreme difference in weight. After doing this you will forever be able to instantly tell what a prop is made of by simply picking it up.

Alternatively, find the part number on the prop and look it up with the manufacturer.
