I've got my stainless prop now, and would like to keep it. I am thinking about a lock for the prop. There's the lock that looks like a wheel lug nut type lock, and replaces the prop nut. The other type looks like a "Club" steering wheel lock; you have to place it on the lower unit when you aren't using the boat. I boat in salt water, so durability of the prop nut type is important. Any opinions on these or other methods or products to thwart prop theft?

The best prop lock I have found is made by Mc Gard.

Eric:

I agree with Dick 500%, McGard is the best around, I have been using mine in saltwater
for two yrs and it still looks like new.

I also use McGard lock for my engine.

I ordered a McGard lock yesterday. Thanks for the replies. Till it arrives, I decided to pull the prop off, since I'd have to take the nut off anyway. I'm not boating this weekend, too crazy on holidays here in FL.

I have used a McGuard prop lock on my Merc's and Yamaha's for years and thinks them great. My only constant worry is the non usage of the safety keeper, be it star washer tab or shaft pin. McGuard only uses a cone washer to keep pressure on a nylock nut. So far so good, but always in the back of my mind. Also good idea to get a spare lock key, ordered direct from McGuard.
