Great if you have limited room. They are not cheap. I am not crazy about the added weight being on the engine.

I considered one of these for my Outrage, but then thought that if I needed the main engine up for clearance, couldn't use the trolling motor. Saw some that mounted on trim tabs that looked interesting. JC

Those are not cheap either. I wonder if you steer from using the port or starboard motor(like duals). I never thought of the shallow water problem.

I have one on for almost three years.
I did not want to mess with the bow rail so I went for the engine mount.
The Minkota EM42 pushes my 17' montauk pretty good I guess 4-5 mph.

I mostly live bait fish inland for striped bass with the baits on a slow troll.
Yes, you steer with main motor.

I ran the control thru the tunnel and out the console.
It looks pretty nice .I have my fish finder and controls all right there.

I would say the negative is fishing line can get tangled in your prop so have wrench to take prop off -no big deal. IF you don't you will eat your seals up.

Reverse is not as fast as forward.
Motor has worked flawless in three yesars.
When the boat on plane the trolling motor is out of the water.
I paid $399 for mine I think they go for around $429 now.
Hope this helps.
