I have a mid 1990's 21' Outrage with a Johnson 225 HP Oceanrunner 2-stroke outboard. I am thinking of refitting with a "cleaner" solution in order to operate in lakes as well as bays and the ocean. Does any one have an opinion if there is a market for this type of used motor? If, so any ideas on how to advertise and sell? It is very clean with only 100 hours.

I would also be interested in suggestions for a replacement powerplant solution (twins vs. single, etc.).

Thanks!

Where are you located and how much are you asking?

I am in the Monterey Bay Area, CA. I have been told by a friend (an ex-OMC tech-trainer) that the motor is worth only about $7k. He can take it out and pack it safely for shipping if needed.

What would you put it on?

The motor is a 1996. Is $7k too little?

About $3k too high. They were only $10k new. Sorry! Maybe you will get better $ out west.

Thanks Bigshot. I don't really have any idea about pricing a used outboard. The boat is a 21' 1996 Justice (Outrage) and is very clean. It has low hours and has been very well maintained. I love the boat, but I want to be able to take into fresh water without polluting. If I could sell the motor, I could re-power with a big 4-stroke or dual 100, but whew, talk about big$$.

I think I need to sell the boat and motor as a package. I plan to buy a 17' Montauk with a 4-stroke in place of the big 21 footer.

Any suggestions on how much the boat is worth or how to buy a nice Montauk? Boat trader has a bunch of boats and the late 1980's 21 foot Outrages (with older 2 strokes) are getting $25-30K.

Thanks for the input!!

You are welcome, sorry about the price quote. Since OMC's problems thay are selling cheap.
