I know this is off topic but I didn't know of a better forum to ask this question in. I'm always impressed with the answers here.

My father just got a new 15hp Merc. for a 12' Avon inflatable and he is having trouble running at high speeds. He says at full throttle there is no water around the prop. if that makes any sense. Any ideas what might be wrong? Would a doel fin help? Would trimming the engine up help? I'm going there this weekend so I'll be able to take a look at what he is talking about.

I had a 11' with a 15 and it was downright scary at anything more than 3/4 throttle and 1 person. The doelfin should help, especially with 2 or 3 people.

I know that with a 14' zodiac w/40hp yamaha the prop will catch "air pockets" if its trimed to the 1st pin(trim all the way down) running in choppy seas. The only way to cure it is to trim up. On a 15hp merc there are 3 trim positions. Try running on the 2nd or 3rd pin/position.
I dount see why else it would have "air around the prop"...if its a avon with a fiberglass vee hull it shouldnt have the problem stated above. Hope this helps...Easy E
