extra RPM with silicon

Seems like I get about 200-250 more RPM at WOT after spraying prop with silicon; or is
it just trimmed out just right or conditions just right. Has or would someone else try it?

I can't imagine that it would hce lasted very long on the prop. Also, if it did I would think that the added RPM is caused by slip. Although flow over the prop is important, it is nothing without bite.

Brian, GPS speed increased about 2.2 mph.

If you think so! I highly doubt it, might have more to do with the lower humidity and colder winter air being ingested into the engine.
I always wondered about another thing: If nothings sticks to teflon pans then why does crap grow on teflon coated SST props(that aint black paint)? Why don't they coat bottoms with it?

Doubt that spraying the prop with "silicon" would improve speed. More likely the conditions had something to do with it.
BS --Interlux's VC Offshore bottom paint has Teflon in it.

Quite a few years ago in avation they tried to coat the leading edge of an aircraft wing with teflon* so ice would not stick to it,,,they found nothing holds ice as good as teflon,,,so back to rubber expandable boots & heated leading edges.

I meant like a teflon pan coating. I guess it won't stick to fiberglass and probably cost prohibitive.

That Teflon pan coating is a metal/Teflon mixture resulting from the thermal spraying of a metal/Teflon powder mixture onto a metal pan. My guess is that it probably would be too hot to spray onto a fiberglass substrate.

The go-fast sailors use waxes and bottom paints that are teflon based. A few guys in my Hobie fleet swore by the spendy teflon wax, but said silicon waxes actually slowed the boats down.

Silcon disperses water away from it so therefore in my mind:) if it was that slippery you would just slip or cavitate.

Leave the bottom of your boat with gel-coat or whatever bottom paint you got there. Waxs and oils dount do nothin but clump up or wash off. Believe it or not it is actually good have clean gel-coat even if it slightly rough. I have quite a bit of friends into the "go-fast" boating and they all laugh at waxs and oils. Getting air under your hull is much more important than how slippery the hull is.

I don't understand why so many seem so unwilling to believe that prop drag can be reduced, even temporarily, without reducing bite.
I'm no hydrodynamicist, but it makes sense to me, and Llewellyn has an example that probably, IMHO, demonstrates that it CAN.
