I've overlooked and often ignored the spew that comes from BS. As he finds it necesary to provoke, incite, or just piss off people for thier posts or the content of. Whats the deal ? How old are you ? or should I ask how mature ?

You seam to be knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects, but its hard to filter out the crap to get the bonus of your knowledge. Just food for thought.

You, on more than one occation pointed out how many posts you have, well BS if you subtract your one or two line pundit pukings you could save jimh some bandwidth.

Oh yeah the point of my post. Having some gay friends who own a camera. I could have them come by and do a photo shoot for you.

Its been a long day, sorry for my waste of bandwidth.

Completely un called for! These type of comments belong on The Hull Truth or I Boats, not here.

Quote: Man, how is that some guys always pick the right career...oh to be a photographer!!
My answer: What if he is a gay photographer?
How is that an insult to the gay community? What if I wrote " What if he was a female?" Would that be an insult on women?
To you other questions that are non-of-your-business nor should they be a concern, I do not try and piss people off(on purpose). I do like to bust some chops but usually to people on this board that i know. If you think what I compose here is BS, then don't read it. If you think I am a jerk, fine! I bet you could find a few others here who would agree. You will also find many who have thanked me for my advice and sense of humor(if you can call it that). Not everyone reads Norman Mailer either Tobes.

Now since we are showing our laundry, this is what gets me mad. People that do not fill-in their profile. People who can't spell and I don't mean slips of the keyboards. People that speak in "Cyberlingo". People who list their articles for sale but forget to list any information. And people that feel the need to make a thread that is mainly for their gain, to make themselves feel "strong" and to make others feel "small" or stupid and that post will ultimately invoke a negative response or an argument. You my friend are the immature and childish one for even conjuring up a thread like this and not even man enough or woman enough to e-mail me or call me. My number is 800-247-3011. It is even toll-free so your cheap ass has no excuse.

Not that I am disrespecting the Irish(my wife is Irish,)my friend from Dublin would say "Piss-off lassy!"

Nick, 1st My bad, I owe you an apology I took your comment the wrong way. You got me on a bad momment and for that I'm sorry. too much coffee on a bad day.

2nd I tried to convey that you have a good knowledge of motors, boats and such, but with your off handed comments your message might get lost in transit. I respect this site and the resource it has provided me. For the most part the people are here to help other whaler lovers scratch that ich. As for my spelling, it sucks, what can I say, I try.

Jay,Chris,Dick you can go through all of BS posts and tell me if those are really called for.?? and this was posted in response to another thread here.

As for my degradation of this site, it stops here. Lets get back to whalers.

There is a certain fact of this new electronic media that is becoming ever more clear, even on the Whaler Forum:

1) Due to the differences in the way people write and other people read, a person's statements and intent are occasionally misinterpreted by others.

2) This media allows for immediate, emotional, and not always particularly well-thought out responses with the push of an "enter" button.

3) Since people do not have to directly confront others face to face, it appears that we might act boldly, hastily and without regard to the accuracy of our remarks.

4) This media does not encourage the use of etiquette ... that is privately discussing a disagreement with someone before doing so publicly, er... electronically.

Not intending to lecture, but maybe this is a lesson for all of us to go off-line by using the e-mail addresses provided in the profiles before firing off an E-scud in this public forum of friends. Plus... it will probably save the inevitable embarrassment of the retraction... or being ignored.

Fondly,
WhalerGuy

Thanks Gvisko....I am a real jerk:)

Tobes: I do not get offended easily and I know I offend others...sorry! My "spew" is just that, absolute nonsense usually meant to be humorous but not always interpreted or conveyed that well. I have on more than one instance incured "foot-in-mouth disease" and again I am sorry to all that visit this site.

I ask in front of all on this forum...confront your fight via e-mail because as I have seen many times it is usually a misunderstanding.

Since my graduation from the Nick Manukas school of Abrassiveness, I realize I can be just that, but it is not now or ever was intended to be a personal slam. If I was gonna personally slam somebody, there would be no question as to my intent(most here will attest to that). When I bust somebody's chops about their mispelling or lack of words in a classified ad, I will usually add a :) to show I am just busting, I hope that helps.

Now where were we?

triblet posted 02-21-2002 09:45 PM ET (US)     Profile for triblet  Send Email to triblet
The Internet would be a lot friendlier if folks
were worried that the other guy could reach
out of the monitor and punch their lights
out. That's a lot of what keeps us civil
in person. My general rule is to not say anything
electronically that I wouldn't say to a BIG
guy sitting at the next barstool.

But all in all, this forum is a very friendly
place, compared to say, rec.boats.

I agree with Triblet...lol

I know Bigshot can be a jerk and hypocrite on waistin space but so what? Members of this forum could type all the BS they want but is it really hurtin you? Its not like where talkin and your just waisting my time. Filter what you need to know from the BS is it that so hard?
Jimh on the other hand has the last word on waisting space. I am right now but he knows as well as I that about 90% of the members on this forum is more than willing to put up money for an upgraded site including myself. He also has the labor of constucting new forum. Well thats my 2 cents of thoughts and my contribution waisted space :)-EasyE

Wow--I don't know where this all came from, but I am glad it's over.

This reminds me of a story. A friend of mine, well educated, good schools, very urbane, ended up taking a job that lead him to Atlanta, Georgia back in the 1970's.

He was just about the antithesis of the typical southerner in his politics, interests, etc. After a few months in the south he returned to Ann Arbor for a visit.

"Dean," I said, "how the hell are you getting along down there with all those good-ol' boys?"

"Oh," said Dean, "it's really no problem. Any time I sense a strain coming into a conversation with them, I just throw in a couple of 'How 'bout them 'Dogs?' (Georgia Bulldogs) and that kills any tension.

Therefore, I say, "How 'bout them new Montauks?"

For some reason or other, I have corresponded with John Tobey in the past regarding 22 Outrage literature. I found him to be a very respectable person who thanked me for my efforts, even though we do not know each other. As indicated, he must have been having a bad day, like we all do occasionally, and as said, Nick is easy to misunderstand at times! Being a paramedic, he couldn't be all that bad! I have a lot of respect for people in that profession, especially since 9/11.

Tobes called me(800#) and we rapped a while. He's cool and I explained that I am a jerk but take me with a grain of salt and we wished each other a happy weekend(gonna rain....here in FL!).

lhg posted 02-22-2002 04:49 PM ET (US)     Profile for lhg
We should all remember that there is a considerable generation, or even 2 generation, age gap here. I think we range from age 20 to age 80! This does make for different interpretations and responses to what is being said here. We all like Whalers, but not all of us would get along personally or have much else to relate to one another. So this has to be kept in perspective when commenting. The younger guys should be tolerant and repectful of the less "hip" "old guys", and the "old guys" should try to understand what these younger guys are all about. The generation gaps are real.

As a younger guy, many of the older people would not understand, or care for, some of Nick's comments. And I have noticed that much of his support comes from his contemporaries, which is fine.

But for the most part, almost all here seem to have found a common understanding in relation to what is being said. And since we often don't even know who belongs to what generation, we seem to be doing a LOT better here than elsewhere on the web.

Hey Guys: Great example of Whaler Forum etiquette near the bottom of a recent post in Post-Classics section, I think entitled Outrage 17: 1991 - 1995. I hope my kids such manners. Great reminder that may be worth a minute of time...

Hey, let's not drag photographers into this fracas. I'm a photographer -- not gay just cheerful. Though my wife may beg to differ. Anyway, life as a photographer isn't all it's cracked up to be. Tough profession. And since September the photo industry in NYC has really slowed. Hope things pick up soon. All this BS I blame on antsyness from having our Whalers on land for the winter. Anyway if you know anyone who needs a NY photographer please send them my way. I'll even shoot boudoir photos of Bigshot if he promises no hanky-panky. See my photos at www.danwagner.com Ahoy sailors! ; )

At this point, it seems to me that this thread should move to the META-Forum, or if there is additional discussion about the site and how it is used, that is a place to start a new thread. I think jimh has been wise and accomodating to include that section, but I know I don't check it that much. It's informative and fun to participate in the forums we chose, but maybe part of the responsibility, to ourselves and jimh, of being a member of an internet community is to provide and receive feedback.

This site is a gift. This site is one of the gems of the internet. To me, this site is an example of one of the best things the internet can be. That said, if it is not used and treated responsibly, this site may be gone sooner than we would like, and that would truely be a great loss to the members.

Just my thoughts.

Kelly
