I just talked to a guy that has this set up. He claims the boat will only do about 25 mph with he and 1 passenger. Also the boat takes about 30 seconds to plane.
Does anyone have a similar set up with the same results?
Also I would like to know how the new sport preforms. Anybody out there have one?

I'm getting ready to sand and varnish the 13's wood(1976) and I recently inherited a 9.9 evinrude. I will do some time trials with it and post. Will be interesting to see how she does with the "Minimum" hp rating.

Jay, I didn't want to hear that. I bought a 25hp. Honda yesterday. I wanted a 30 but a local dealer had a special on a 25 that I just couldn't pass up. Will post results when installed and rigged.

Darrell, what did you have to pay? Around my area the Honda dealers will only sell with a complete install. I found a 2 year old Honda 25HP with controls for $2500.00 that only has 20 hours. I would like to hear how yours performs. Please keep us posted. Regards, Jay

About 10 days ago I bought a new in box 1999 25 Johnson with prop and fuel tank for $1875 at Summerville Marine in Summerville, SC. OMC controls/wiring was an extra $300. Included full warranty. Cash and carry. Great dealership, and a big place. I had contemplated putting a very good used Johnson 50 on my 13' but opted to go smaller since my kids would be prime operators. Haven't run it yet, just finsihed hooking up everything tonite - put no feedback teleflex steering on it, too. When you check around with dealers for prices and all, ask them if they have any "non-current" motors - that's their lingo for new old stock. Mav

Jay, I paid $3,495 + tax = $3,764 total for the 2002 Honda 25hp. Most dealers around here are $4,000 to $4,200 out the door. I thought about a Canadian motor from Bay Marine in Ontario which would of cost $3,700 shipped to my door, but I didn't want to give up the warrantee. 30hp Hondas are going for about $4,500 t0 $4,700 around Sacramento. To you other guys, I know I could of gotten a Merc or brands X, Y, or Z for less but I wanted the Honda. And the Honda includes controls, prop, and non degrading warrantee, some of which other manufactures charge extra for. I installed a CMC T&T which will give me about 6" setback which I hope will help my performance. If my rig cruses at 25 mph I'll be happy, the 30 sec. to get on plane sounds like a long time though.

Darrell, congrats on the buy; I think with t&t you should be able to "tuck it under" for a faster planeout.

Thanks Flipper, I think it will be fast enough, the little lady doesn't like to go too fast anyway, we just fish and cruise around local lakes, delta and bays.

Mav I hate to say this but you have no warranty unless it is aftermarket and that was impossible for me to find. Bombardier is offering NO warranties on ANY 1999 engine, even my 70hp which is made entirely by Suzuki. If you do not believe me, call bombardier. They have their phone number on their website.

I know this thread is old but I think readers would like to know that my dock neighbor put a 2004 Honda 25hp 4-stroke on his excellent 1988 13SS. He replaced the worn out original 25hp Merc 2-stroke. I have watched them ski, wakeboard, airchair and tube for a few summers. I am impressed with that Honda. Yes, Honda is pricey. I know it is super reliable and sips fuel. I am amazed at how quiet this boat is at idle. I can see the hot water stream shooting out the back of the engine, which is how I know his engine is running. I swear, I cannot hear his engine running from 10 feet away on my dock. I would reccommend the 2006 and newer 30hp Honda with trim and tilt for a 13SS. I also like the heavy-duty 30hp Suzuki
with trim and tilt. It is just as quiet as the Honda but heavier.

I should ad that his grandkids ski easily behind the boat with three adult aboard. The boat will pull a 180 lb skier,
but just barely with driver only aboard. Wake boarding or tubing with 200lb adult is no problem.
