1996 13 Dauntless. What's best power-wise and weight-wise?

I had a Dauntless 13 with 40 HP mercury Magnum 2-stoke motor. The motor weighed about 190 lbs. Performance was good.

If I still had the boat and needed to repower I woul look into a Mercury 40 HP 4-stroke. At 204 lbs it wouldn't add sutantial weight to the boat and would give you the advantages of a 4 stroke.

I just repowered my '73 13ft'r with a 40hp Mercury 4-Stroke. With power tilt and trim the motor weighs in at 224 lbs. It's a little much but the boat seems to hold it fine. I had to move a little weight forward to allow it to sit in the slip properly, but all in all I would recommend this motor to anyone with a 13ft'r. Power tilt and trim seem to be a must, there is a huge range in trim from slow cruising to wide open throttle to get the heavy backend up.
